College World Series…

Summer is officially in full swing.  Yesterday marked the longest day of the year.  I had dreams of capturing a picturesque scene as the sun was setting on the longest day of the year.  However, it was rainy and stormy so it actually got dark a little earlier than usual with no sunshine.  No sunshine equals no picturesque shot.

However, summer also means the College World Series in Omaha.  I love the College World Series.  My summer is not complete if I don’t make it out.

So we piled in the car and headed downtown.  We ate a little dinner at DJ’s Dugout and headed to the stadium.  It was a hot one in Omaha.

The sun was in our eyes for the first hour or so, but well worth it...

Extreme temperatures called for a frozen lemonade cup with two spoons, because hey, we’re sisters...

The College World Series was a blast.  So glad I got to go, even if I ended up being the 3rd wheel.  I love baseball, sunshine and summertime!

Oh Boy…

Saturday was a big day for babies.  Ashley had a little girl and Naomi had a little boy.  Sunday we headed up to the hospital to meet Landry Thomas.  We packed 11 people into the little hospital room and took turns holding Landry.  Of course there was room for one more, but Kirsten is off traveling the world.  Lainey and Ellie were excited for their new baby brother.

Landry Thomas...

Yesterday I  discovered something that I had not yet discovered this summer.  The sun is not my friend.  I went to the pool and the sun was apparently more intense than it has been.  I put sunscreen on.  A lot.  And I got burnt.  Bad.  Now I am trying a little sunburn remedy of black tea on the skin to see if its healing powers are real.  I know I’ve been burnt worse, but I try to avoid it with layers and layers of sunscreen.

Now, I am frantically getting things ready for vacation.  I’m a little nervous, but I mostly can’t wait!

Something Old…

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...

Trent and I celebrated out 3rd anniversary on June 12th.  It’s crazy how it seems like yesterday and forever ago all at the same time.   I remember my something new...my wedding dress.  And my something borrowed...my shoes (among many other things I borrowed to save money!)  But I am unsure of my something old and something blue.  However, for anniversary number 3 we I got a very special gift that can now be called my something old.

It was my wagon when I was growing up.  My mom pulled it out and dusted it off.  We had just been talking about it the other day and I thought it would be so cool to have for displaying flowers.  In that past it has been used to pull rock collections from the road to the house, to haul kittens and I’m sure there was a ride or two in that Radio Flyer!

Trent was gone most of the day, but in my head, I kept thinking that an anniversary was comparable to a birthday.  It was okay that I wanted to be lazy because it was my anniversary.  I wanted to eat unhealthy, but that was okay because it was my anniversary.  Perhaps if Trent had been there being lazy and unhealthy with me it would have been okay because it was our anniversary, but alone, it was unjustifiable.

However, after a long boring day at at home, Trent finally got home and we headed out to dinner at none other than Mahoney State Park.  Trent loves that place and the food is pretty good.  We had the entire “porch” to ourselves.

Now, another year is in the books. Trent is getting me the most exciting anniversary gift, but we haven’t had time to go pick it out yet...stay tuned.

Finally, with summer in full swing, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of 2 babies in the next week(Ashley and Naomi), planning a vacation and getting in some reading and pool time.

Happy Flag Day!

Batter Up…

I have pretty much been a bum lately.  Some days I’m not even sure what I did or where the day went.

The other day, while I’m not proud to admit it, there was nothing on TV.  So I turned on Netflix and I gave in to Jersey Shore.  It was a train wreck, but I couldn’t turn away.  It is 41 minutes of my life I will never get back.  But I gave in and watched.  I am embarrassed.  Trent said he was embarrassed for me.

Then, that night I headed to Lincoln for Trent’s softball game.  It was a beautiful night for a softball game.  He’s been playing since April and I hadn’t made it to a game yet.  After I spent the first few minutes watching the wrong team, I finally found Trent’s team.  Not embarrassing at all, Trent and I were wearing identical shirts!  So I cheered on the team and spent some time with Jessie, Kalliea and Mason.

Hopefully I’ll make it to a few more games before the end of the season.

Spring Cleaning…

The other day was a Danny Tanner kind of day.  You know, Danny Tanner from Full House.  Uncle Jessie, Joey, the whole gang.   I loved Full House growing up.  I watched it as often as I could.  TGIF on ABC made my week. I particularly remember the episode where Danny was cleaning the vacuum.  Seems so silly to clean something that is used for cleaning, right?  Well, with a little help from Pinterest, I concocted some cleaning solutions to clean the things that are used to clean in my life. Hence, the Danny Tanner kind of day.

First up,the washing machine.  It was awful.  The build up of fabric softener was disgusting.  It needed to be done.  So I took a before picture just like they did on Pinterest...don’t judge.

Then I soaked it in bleach, ran the cycle, soaked it in vinegar, used a little elbow grease, ran the cycle and voila!  Good as new...

DSC03398

I also needed to clean the bathrooms.  I hate scrubbing the showers.  I don’t have enough elbow grease in me to really get it clean.  Mine is not fun, Trent’s is a nightmare.  Yes, we use different showers.  It’s good for our marriage.  His gets cleaned about half as often as mine because I dread it so much.  But with Pinterest to the rescue I mixed a little vinegar with some Dawn dish soap and coated the whole shower in the solution.  I let it set and then scrubbed.  It was a miracle before my eyes.  The shower has never been so clean.

Slowly, but surely I am cleaning our apartment from head to toe.  Cleaning the closet and cupboards.  Spare bedroom and laundry room.  To the naked eye it looks okay, but as I dig a little deeper I know it needs to be done.  It has needed to be done for the 9 months that it was mostly neglected.  My cleaning mostly looks like me cleaning a little, watching some daytime t.v.,  cleaning a little more, looking at Pinterest, talk about cleaning some more and taking another break.  Like I said, this is slowly, but surely!  Now, it’s back to work!

Memorial Day Weekend…

I have been on summer vacation for almost 2 weeks.  I don’t have much to show for it.  I’ve been pretty lazy.  I cleaned a little.  Watched the Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda every morning.  Did some grocery shopping.

Last Friday was the perfect start to a holiday weekend.  Mom, Jamie and I headed out to Mahoney State Park for some lunch and outdoor fun.  A little breezy and cooler, but otherwise perfect!

We ate.

We hiked.

We climbed the tower.

We laughed.

We got ice cream.

All in all, a great long weekend.  Pretty lazy.  Monday morning Trent and I headed to the cemetery for the Memorial Day parade.  Then Trent and I made a trip out to Platte River State Park on Monday to play so tennis, hike some more and get ice cream.  More updates coming soon...
